Unlike many conventional oxidative hair colors, Naturie does not use diamine-based dyes such as paraphenylenediamine (PPD). It is also formulated without tar-based dyes, hydrogen peroxide, or fragrance.

The formula uses a two-part non-oxidative coloring system with pyrogallol and ferrous sulfate hydrate as active ingredients. It provides a natural black color designed to blend naturally with Japanese black hair.
